ZIP LINING THROUGH THE RAINFOREST CANOPY
This is a fairly new adventure activity but is quickly becoming one of the most popular. Hacienda Baru is a 2000-acre private nature preserve in the hills of the coastal mountain range along the central Pacific coast. In a section of the preserve that is totally primary rainforest, with 250 to 300 foot high trees, they have set up 8 platforms spread out through the forest canopy. Steel cables that are suspended as much as 100 feet above the forest floor connect all of these platforms together. Using repelling equipment, students will be connected to these cables and go zipping through the jungle, past monkeys, sloths and toucans.
RINCON DEL LA VIEJA NATIONAL PARK TOUR
Rincon del la Vieja National Park. This is one of the most beautiful national parks in Costa Rica as well as one of its most remote. Students will be guided through the parks trails, through dry forest areas filled with wild life. There are a number of different hot springs and creeks. At the end of the main trail, is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in all of Central America. This is truly a hidden gem with almost white blue water in the swimming hole at the bottom of the almost perfect stream of water pouring out of the rocks above. There will be plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surrounding, swim and look at wild life. At around noon there will be a picnic lunch. We will then take a different trail back through the forest to the entrance of the park.
ISLA CATALINA NATURE PRESERVE SNORKELING TRIP
The Santa Catalina Islands off the northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica are famous for their increasable diving and snorkeling. Boat ride will begin on the beach right in front to Tamarindo. We will cruise around the different islands stopping at various points on our way to Isla Catalina National Preserve to swim and snorkel. There will be many stops along the way at different snorkeling spots. This area of Costa Rica is the best for snorkeling and diving as the waters are very clear and blue.
SEA KAYAKING TOUR
On this tour students will have the opportunity to have a fun and exciting experience riding the waves on a kayak. This is very different from surfing but has the same thrill of riding the waves. Students will be given individual or tandem kayaks to visit the surrounding islands and caves. They will have a chance to try their hands at kayak surfing, which is a fun a different way to ride a wave.
TOUR OF ALAJUELA, COSTA RICA'S SECOND CITY
Alajuela is the second largest city in Costa Rica. It has a rich colonial history and a great deal of pride. The central square and surrounding plazas and building are reminiscent of the turn of the century. Much of Alajuelas wealth came from the surrounding coffee plantations and that money was put into grand architecture. The Costa Rican national hero, Juan Santamaria was from the city ad there is a museum commemorating his bravery. Students will visit this museum as well as the main park and cathedral. We will have lunch in a local restaurant before heading back to San Jose.
