ISLS Teen Spanish and Volunteer Camp Turrialba Costa Rica

The following is a condensed version of the weekly itinerary for the 2011 ISLS Teen Spanish & Volunteer Camp in Turrialba, Costa Rica. If you would like a more detailed and descriptive version, please contact us.

Sunday
WELCOME! Students are met upon arrival in San Jose and are taken to our Student Guesthouse. They must arrive no later than 3pm on the Sunday start date. There will be food and internet access at the guesthouse. Students will have the opportunity to call home and let parents know they have arrived safely.

Transport to Turrialba! Students will be taken by bus from San Jose where they will meet up with their host families. There will be time to get settled in and get to know the new families.

Welcome to Turrialba Ice Cream Gathering! At 7pm we will all meet at a local ice cream shop in town to go over the coming week of activities.

Weekend Tours: There are four different 2 day weekend tours: Two Day Rafting Trip on Rio Pacuare (July 2nd & 3rd), Cloud Forest Adventure Trip (July 9th & 10th), The Turrialba Experience (July 16th & 17th), Playa Hermosa Beach Adventure (July 23rd & 24th)
Sunday
Weekend Tours, Day 2: Students returning to Playa Dominical to continue with the Surf Program will be transported back to their hotel by private coach. Students transferring to our other teen camps will be transported to their new destination by private coach. Those students who are completing their programs will be transferred back to San Jose by private coach to our guesthouse near the airport.

Monday (departing students only)
Students will be transported to the airport as their flight times dictate. A staff member will drive with them to the airport and see that they get checked into their flight and through security. As students will be flying out at different times throughout day, there will also be a staff members remaining at the guesthouse. If students fly out in the afternoon or evening, they will receive lunch.
Additional Information
Upon arrival in San Jose, students will be met at the airport by the program’s counselors and transported to our nearby guesthouse. Here students will have the ability to relax before being taken to Turrialba by bus. There will be food & drink available along with access to restrooms & the internet.

If a student is unable to arrive by 3 pm Sunday, there is a Saturday pick up option available for an additional fee of $120. Students will be met upon arrival by a member of the ISLS staff. They will be transported to the Student Guesthouse where they will have dinner and stay for the night. The next morning they will have breakfast and relax while they wait for the other students to arrive.

We volunteer at a local orphanage three times each week. The other afternoon each week we volunteer at the government senior home. At the orphanage we will do a service project as well as play and interact with the children. At the senior home we read and play games. All of these activities are in Spanish.

All activities are scheduled for the dates and times listed, but are subject to change due to weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control. In case of a tour or activity being changed, we will do our best to reschedule. If a tour/activity must be cancelled and cannot be made up, there is no refund.
